nursing calculators for windows CE

READ FIRST! You need a Pocket PC to use this program.

The current version contains the following calculators:

Dosage calculators:

1. PO & IV dosage calculator    calculates liquid medications such as acetaminophen elixir. calculates IV medications such as furosemide and digoxin
2. Dosage/kg    same as above but will calculate dosage per kilogram

  Calculate IV rates:

1. IV rate (gtt/min)    calculates IV rates without using an IV pump
2. IV rate (mL/hr)    calculates IV rates when given a time limit when IV must be infused
3. mcg/min as mL/hr    use the mcg/kg/min as ml/hr calculator . Enter 1 in kg.
4. mcg/kg/min as mL/hr    calculates IV medication rates such as nitroprusside and dopamine

Calculate infusion time:

1. IV time    given an IV rate, calculates the duration of an IV

Calculate dosage given or infusing:

There are times when the only way to figure out how much medication is being infused is by looking at the information on the IV bag and the rate of the infusion. 

1. ml/hr to dose/min    calculates the dose of medications infusing such as heparin
2. ml/hr to mcg/min    calculates the dose of medications infusing such as nitroglycerin
3. ml/hr to mcg/kg/min     calculates the dose of medications infusing such as dobutamine and nitroprusside

Clinical Calculators

1. Ideal Body Weight (IBW)    compares an individuals weight against a statistical norm
2. Adjusted Body Weight (ABW)    calculates the ABW in obese persons for more accurate drug dosing
3. ABG Interpreter   analyzes blood gas values
4. S.J. Triage Tool  converts height/weight to metric. calculates liquid acetaminophen dosage
5. ETOH level    determines the discharge time according to blood alcohol level

Conversion Calculators

1. °F,°C conversions    converts Fahrenheit and Celsius temperatures
2. pounds to kilograms    converts pound and kilogram weights
3. inches to centimeters    converts inch and centimeter lengths

Download Instructions

1. Make sure your PDA has Pocket PC or Windows CE on it.

2. If you have Windows XP or WinZip download my calculators.  

3. YOU MUST UNCOMPRESS "CALCULATORS" FOLDER BEFORE USE!

Compressed vs. Uncompressed

4. To uncompress folder:  In Windows XP just click on the zip file and choose "Extract All."  If you don't have Windows XP use Winzip to uncompress folder.  Once the "calculators" folder has been extracted another folder named "calculators" will be created on your computer.  This new folder is what you will be using in you PDA. 

5. Connect your Pocket PC (Windows CE) device to your computer

6. On your Desktop, double click on my computer.

7. Find the icon for your PDA and double click on it.

8. You will see files inside your PDA.  Double click on the icon of a PDA.

9. "My Documents" is a good place to put the uncompressed "calculators" folder.  Resize this window to make room on your desktop and then drag-and-drop the folder in "My Documents" on your PDA.

10. Now my calculators are in your Pocket PC.  All you have to to is open them:

1. Press the home button on your PDA

2. Find the explorer icon (folder with magnifiying glass) and click on it

3. "My Documents" folder will open

4. Open the "calculators" folder

5. Open the file named "index"

This is the main menu.  Add this in your PDA's "Favorites."  The next time you want to use the calculators just open Pocket PC's Explorer and it will be in your favorites .

Tips

On Pocket PC's Explorer, choose "view" and then check "fit to screen"
